Eric Valdez

Years ago I was in a punk band called L.D.S. The name was an acronym for many things, but toward the end it stood for Life’s Daily Struggle. We were active off-and-on a few times from ’96 to ’05, but we reunited for a show in ’07 for our bassist’s 30th birthday. Now we’re playing again on June 26th to pay homage to Kelly’s Pub in Arcadia, which will be closing.

Joining us that night will be fellow San Gabriel Valley punk veterans; Krud, Tangwich and S.S.D.D. and Never Dead. The show is free and starts at 9:00. Kelly’s Pub is located at 80 West Live Oak Avenue, Arcadia, CA 91007

I’ll have a merch booth set up at the show with limited edition 11″x14″ posters of the flyer available at the show and I might have some prints of other stuff there too.

Life's Daily Struggle circa 204

First of all: I have a bunch of new vinyl pieces going up for about a month at GCS Clothing‘s gallery in Santa Ana starting tomorrow (6/5/10). Speaking of tomorrow: It’s the Santa Ana Art Walk in the Santa Ana Arts District. I’ll be there to scope that scene out.

Secondly: I broke my ankle (because I suck at walking) on May 2nd so I have a lot of time on my hands since I’m now temporarily house-bound. Now there isn’t an excuse for me not to update this thing on a regular basis. I have tons of images of new pieces that I need to upload onto this site so the updates will be coming VERY SOON!

I don’t currently have internet access at home so I haven’t been updating much. My bad. I’m participating in a few holiday shows and whatnot so here’s the low-down:

Cactus Gallery’s 4th Annual Tiny Treasures show is going on right now. It’s the perfect place to holiday shop for affordable original art.

This Friday (12/18) The Hear Gallery & Automatico are having their HOLIDAY HEROES food and toy drive at Senor Fish in Little Tokyo. I don’t know which other artists are participating, but I expect to see a lot of good stuff there. I’m updating from work and Facebook so blocked so I can’t get to a flyer, but I’ll post a flyer ASAP!

The event that I’m most excited about is the NYE shin dig that Hear Gallery, Automatico and Blow Up LA are putting together.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m going to be doing something incredibly fun on Saturday night…and early Sunday morning. I’ll be showing some new pieces at this amazing event, but I’d be there even if I didn’t have some stuff up on the wall. Seriously. That’s how rad these Hear Gallery and Hang The DJs co-productions are.

First of all, thanks to all of you who stopped by Geeks for my show’s opening reception. It was a lot of fun and I hope everyone that attended had a good time.

Secondly, on August 29th I’ll be participating in a really cool event at Mi Vida, a boutique in South Pasadena that is a great supporter of local art.

The Hear Gallery is putting on another event this Saturday which means I’ll be participating in 3 art shows on Saturday instead of 2.

I’ll say “yes” to participating in any art-related event, even if it means that I’ll be double-booked. Something like that isn’t a big deal because it usually means that I have two openings or whatever to hit in the same night instead of just one event. This time I’ll be at the opening of my show at Geeks, a shop in Uptown Whittier that specializes in graphic novels, action figures and role playing games while some older pieces are on display at  Al Borde‘s Acoustic sessions.  I probably shouldn’t have committed to spreading myself so thing on the same night that I’m likely to be stressed out to-the-max, but my homie Chatismo has been curating the art portion of the Al Borde shows and I’ve wanted to be involved since he started a few months ago. Fortunately, the Al Borde event is a two-part event so I’ll be able to hang out at part one before heading over to Geeks. Of course, I highy reccommend going to both my show and the Al Borde show.

It looks like Saturday is going to be a pretty crazy day for me. I forgot to mention that I’m going to be participating in the Downtown El Monte Art Walk in addition to Summer Voyage. Come by and take a look at what some talented local artists are currently up to.

Hopefully I’ll have some time to take a nap between events so I can recharge a little.

The Hear Gallery and Hang The DJ’s have another event in the works and I’m stoked about participating. I’m glad the Hear Gallery crew keeps asking me to be involved in the crazy shit that they put together because I was going to their events before I ever started painting.

The art portion of the event will be a robot art show. I don’t have any new robot pieces so I have a lot of work to do this weekend. Yikes!

It should be a fun night.

I’m pleased to announce that I will have a solo show at Geeks, a rad comic/action figure/role playing shop in Uptown Whittier, on August 1st. Mark your calendars! What can you expect to see at Geeks on August 1st? A bunch of new pieces (plus a couple of older ones…maybe), the second installment in the limited edition ERICVALDEZART.COM button pack series (series 1 packs are currently available at Raggedy Threads in Downtown L.A., Casita del Pueblo in Uptown Whittier or from me when I get the webstore up and running), new prints and some surprises.

Lastly, big thanks to those who came out for shows at Five Stars Bar and Casita del Pueblo this past week. The After Walk party at Five Stars that the Hear Gallery put on was incredibly fun and most of the funness  was due to the music of James Yuill, a U.K. “electrofolk” musician. If you dig dancy electro stuff and Postal Service then do yourself a favor and check this guy out. Seriously!
